Simple Steps To Replace Your Broken Laptop LCD Screen

Specta Technology - Many people drop laptops accidentally and break the screen. Broken screen can render a laptop completely useless. Even a small crack on the screen can make it difficult for you to use the laptop for doing work. The good news is that this can be fixed easily. You can replace a broken screen yourself or go to a service center. Doing it yourself can be a little tricky if you do not have any previous experience. It also needs the right tools to do the job.

If you wish to take the laptop to a service center, the job can be done in a professional manner but may cost you a lot more money. Weigh the pros and cons of doing the job yourself vs approaching a service center. If you are not confident or comfortable replacing the screen on your own, you may take the help of a friend or someone who has some sort of experience. Whether you finally decide to outsource the work or not is your choice. If you decide to do it on your own, you can follow the below given steps.

1. If you dropped a laptop or dropped something heavy on it, check whether other components are working fine or is there something else broken besides the screen. Connect an external monitor to your notebook via the VGA port and switch on the laptop. Check whether all functions are working properly. If everything is alright then only the screen has a problem.

2. Disconnect the laptop from power supply, remove the battery and then remove the bezel screws using a small flat-head screwdriver. Before removing the screws, you should first remove the screw covers. These are small rubber covers which are generally found on the front side of the bezel while on some laptops they may be found along the sides of the screen.

3. After removing the screws, place your fingers between the plastic screen bezel and the LCD screen, gently pulling away the bezel. It will usually snap loose easily. Do not use screwdriver or a metal to lift up the bezel because it may further damage the LCD screen.

4. Once the bezel is off, you can see the LCD in its metal frame. Check the cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard and inverter for loose connections and broken wires. Check for the manufacturer's part number on the back of the LCD screen. This part number can help in finding a proper replacement screen for the laptop.

5. Now remove the LCD completely by disconnecting the cables. Replace it with the new screen. Installing the new screen is essentially a reverse of the process of removal. Screw the new LCD into the metal frame, connect the video cable and inverter.
